Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up...
I am back in Rochester and half way through my first week of my last quarter. The previous quarter was very stressful but it went very well and I got all As. Professors were excellent for the most part, classes were interesting, and sleep was elusive. The Beers of the World and Wines of the World courses were everything I hoped they'd be and more. This quarter I am taking Wines of the World II, Network Forensics and its Lab, Childhood and Adolescent Psychology, Effective Speaking, and Cryptography. This will be another quarter with 18 credit hours, 5 courses, and no sleep.
Carolyn and I broke up on Saturday morning around 3am. Things were going well between us, and we were having a great time, but she fell in love with me, and I was not in love with her and did not see myself falling in love with her. This was a terrible state of affairs, and I wish I could have changed it, but it does not work that way. I believe we decided that "Carolyn broke up with Ryan to avoid future disaster." We will probably stay good friends and see each other fairly often, at least I hope that will be the case. Carolyn's account of the situation can be found in her log.
While in Louisville I got my old laptop from work, I am now the proud owner of an HP Omnibook XE2 with Pentium III 450MHz processor, 5GB hard drive, and 128MB of memory. It weighs as much as a small tactical nuclear device, and would do about as much damage if dropped on one's foot. It may be the slowest laptop in this house, but it can be easily used to render unconscious anyone who annoys me with that fact. This weekend's project will be to get Linux up and running on it and configured.
My trip back from Louisville was horrible. It involved 3 inches of snow and ice sitting on the roads with enough snow and fog that I could not see my hood ornament, cops pulling me over to question me because their computer said my license plate was registered to a 1976 ford truck, and managing to reverse the direction my car was pointing by 180 degrees on an on-ramp and line it up perfectly in the right lane going in the wrong direction. When I arrived at GeekHaus I found everyone asleep, the server dead (motherboard most likely fubar), and all the other machines reset. There was a power outage a few hours before I arrived, which reset everything and may have killed the motherboard in the server. After futzing with it for a few hours I switched out the motherboard, processor, and memory with what used to be in my main machine, and got things up and running again. Got a couple of hours of sleep and that had to head off to class. Bah.
There are still a few things to be done to the server, and several things to be checked and tested before I declare it non-fubar. So it will likely be up and down a bit over the next week, I'll try to keep that to a minimum and only during early morning hours.
Interesting things I plan to write about in more detail over the next couple of weeks:
If I do not update this log with info about these e-mail me and bitch at me to do so. Lots of interesting stories I've been meaning to write up for a while now.
Wednesday is sleep day. Time for bed.
